Shop Visit: Boerum House & Home

Last night Boerum House & Home hosted an opening party. While it’s been open for some time, and gained a lot of attention from the press, this was the first time I got to set foot in the store and I was really impressed.

The store is filled with really cool and curious pieces ranging from furniture, to barware to a surfboard. And, the scene was really set by some live painting from from none other than Naomi Clark from Fort Makers

Boerum is interesting for a few reasons. It’s full of lust-worthy goods made by some 130 Brooklyn designers, artists and makers. And also it’s the product of a partnership between Flank, the architecture firm, and Partners and Spade, the design studio. Though I’m not sure if “design studio” is an adequate term for Partners and Spade as they do so much.

The store is set up like an apartment, with a living area, bathroom, etc, which makes for a nice browsing experience and also the perfect venue for a party. I found myself hanging in the bathroom per usual.

I was especially drawn to the Chelsea Miller Knives, the amazing chandelier by Patrick Townsend and all the beautiful copper barware. But really that’s just the surface. There was also a surfboard, a bicycle, stuff for kids and endless grooming products in the bathroom.

With so many amazing objects there’s no doubt that Boerum is helping elevate Brooklyn’s maker scene to a new, and well deserved, level. Without a doubt, worth a visit.
