Few things go as well together as surfing and film photography. The ocean, with its ever-changing colors and forms, makes for a particularly nice backdrop and surfers, always kinetic, make for ideal subjects. It's no wonder surf photography is such a thriving genre. These two things also happen to be two of my favorite past times.
For some 20 years, Tatsuo Takei has been traveling the California Coast, vintage film cameras in hand, documenting a thriving surfing scene. He points his lenses at longboarders specifically, who in my opinion, also demonstrate some of the best style in the water.
The result of all this work is a new book I can't wait to get my hands on called Authentic Wave.
