Scoping: Wanted Design 2015

Wanted Design returned to Industry City this week with a space even more filled out than last year. I snuck over Sunday after the big welcoming events to see some of the designs on display.

If there was an over-arching, or emerging, theme this year, it would be that of organic shapes and designs that integrate plants and natural materials. There was Danielle Trofe’s Mush-Lume Lamp, the giant Plant-In City feature for the WorkOf Outside the Box installation, and the the small electrical products, like hairdryers and bluetooth speakers, created with bamboo tubes in Samy Rio’s Tube Story.

This year also featured the brilliant work of students from a few designs schools like Parsons and Pratt and also, a designs school workshop. For what it's worth, this is the work I found most compelling.

Then of course, there's a healthy amount of beautifully-designed wood furniture and objects, heavy on the walnut and darker varieties of woods, continuing a theme we've seen for the last few years.
