While they don't make giant ships there anymore, the Brooklyn Navy Yard is a still an incredibly productive center for manufacturing and making in New York City. It's a great example of how manufacturing centers of the past can still be fertile grounds for production in the present, and also what's possible when government, industry and small businesses collaborate.
The Navy Yard is home to an interesting and diverse set of businesses like King's County Distillery, AHeirloom, Brooklyn Grange, Crye Precision and New Lab to name a few. So to tell this story and the stories of so many interesting new manufacturing businesses, the great minds behind BLDG 92, will be hosting "Making It in NYC: the Era of New Manufacturing."
The exhibition will explore current New York makers and will also include a series of panel discussions and factory tours. "Making it in NYC" starts tomorrow May 16th and runs through the end of the year.
